Tee Box Zen is a brand concept that brings mindfulness into the game of golf, helping players cultivate self-awareness, focus, and authenticity both on and off the course. Inspired by the principles in Raymond Prior’s Golf Beneath the Surface, the brand explores how presence and mental clarity can elevate performance and shape a golfer’s experience. Built on themes of intention and grounded confidence, Tee Box Zen encourages players to approach the game with a calm, centered mindset.

Logo & Identity

The Tee Box Zen identity centers on a logo that unites a bonsai tree and a golf club, forming a symbol of balance, growth, and grounded presence. Within the mark, subtle visual cues hint at a golf green and flag, reinforcing the connection between mindfulness and the sport. The visual system is supported by a calming, nature-inspired color palette that evokes peacefulness and a steady, centered mindset on the course. Typography pairs Podium Soft Regular—a rounded, inviting primary typeface—with Roboto Light as a complementary secondary style, creating a warm, approachable, and easy-going tone throughout the brand.

Process

The project began with extensive research into mindfulness in golf, drawing from Golf Beneath the Surface as a foundation for understanding presence, performance, and mental clarity. I paired this with competitive analysis to identify patterns within the market and understand what makes similar brands successful. From there, I moved into concept development, sketching, and visual exploration to translate these principles into a cohesive brand system. A curated mood board shaped the tone and visual language, informing both the color palette and overall atmosphere. Through iterative refinement, I developed the Tee Box Zen mark—an integrated bonsai tree, putter, and green—supported by visual elements that reinforce the brand’s grounded and intentional identity.

Applications & Reflection

Tee Box Zen extends into practical applications that bring mindfulness directly into a golfer’s experience. A physical card set offers on-course affirmations and gentle reminders tied to three core mindfulness principles, supported by calming abstract visuals. A companion mobile app provides digital versions of the cards, mindfulness logs, stat tracking, and community resources to help golfers stay centered and intentional. The brand also includes a set of emblem-inspired ball markers that translate the identity into simple on-course accessories. Creating these applications strengthened my ability to build a cohesive brand system and translate abstract ideas into purposeful visuals. Tee Box Zen became a meaningful milestone in my design journey, challenging me and reinforcing my passion for crafting design rooted in clarity and intention.
